Preventatives
There are no preventatives against leprosy.
Leprosy Treatement
There is no vaccine to keep M.lepre at bay, however it is curable. People who have contracted leprosy can be treated with Multi-Drug therapy (MDT) which is free of charge for leprosy victims. MDT consists of the drugs rifampicin, clofazimine and dapsone for patients with multibacillary (MB) leprosy and rifampicin and dapsone for paucibacillary (PB) leprosy patients. Within two weeks of starting the MDT there is no longer a risk of the disease spreading to anyone else. The drugs need to be taken for a six to twelve month period to be full effective.
